Jane Birkin – if you haven’t heard the name then I’m judging you ( just a teensie bit 😛 ). The English singer, actress and fashionista has made her rounds in the spotlight in the 70s and even inspired the Hermes Birkin Bag (see, you must have heard of her one way or another, she’s legendary!)
Starting her stardom was the controversial song written by Serge Gainsbourgh, originally for Brigette Bardot, “Je t’aime moi non plus”. Her fame came quickly and she instantly became known for her relentless, effortless and unique style. Unique being the key point – she was well-known for carrying a straw basket as a purse – a strange yet super chic accessory trend that only she could have started. One day, while boarding a plane, she spilt the contents of her ‘purse’ across the floor right infront of the feet of our very own Hermes, where she went on to explain that she just couldn’t find the right bag that actually closed at the top. there you have it. That’s when Hermes granted her wishes and made the inonic Birkin Bag in honor of her, and of course, gave her a few along the way. She keeps just one for herself, until it’s time for a new, and donates the others for charity.
Jane Birkin still continues to inspire style today, as the straw picnic-esque purse was actually quite the fad this summer.
Here are some highlights of her most casual, yet chic moments. Sometime’s it’s not the clothes you wear, it’s how you wear them.
Summer came and went in quite literally, what feels like, the blink of an eye. It seems as though I just did a Summer Trends post. Well, with that being said, we must start gearing up and getting ready for a lovely Autumn season ahead of us. Autumn is by far my favorite season – the lack of outwear to cover up all the glam underneath! It’s the perfect street style weather, and there’s no excuse for not taking advantage of it! Therefore, I pulled some of the more realistic looks from the runways so you can know what to look for on your next shopping trip to get ready for Fall 2016.
Dramatic Furs & Shearling Jackets
This isn’t a trend, really… This is a cold weather thing. Fur will forever be trending!
Long, Bell Sleeved Blouses
Oversized is by far my favorite style. It’s beautiful and so stylish! This hits all the nails on the head.
Velvet is here to stay for 2016. This isn’t just trending in the clothing department, the runway is telling us that Velvet everything is this seasons must.
This has to be my least favorite look of the season. I do love a tea length puffer jacket, but that’s about the extent of it. I find them to have a classy appeal but the rest can be perceived as somewhat tacky.
Suits / Menswear Inspired
Great Gatsby-esque, except the woman are in charge this time around. There’s nothing more demanding and powerful than a woman in suit, and lets not forget, epically stylish!
This trend is one you have to be careful with – like the puffer jacket, there are limits. There are chic sweatshirts and there are ones you just shouldn’t leave the house in. This trend doesn’t mean you can just throw on any sweatshirt and be stylish! Forever 21 has some great pullovers with funny logos and trendy styles to them.
Capes & Capelets
This piece is the epitome of Fall. These are easily stylish and so classy!
Take this summers off the shoulder trend and alter it a bit and you get the singular cold shoulder for this Fall. This is a unique one!
I recently received this beautiful choker from Ettika, and was extremely delighted to hear the news that it is now a product for Revolve! (yaaaaaay, Ettika!!) The company fell as much in love with the piece as I did, and therefore it’s now available at Revolve.com.
There’s nothing I can say I dislike about this piece. I was skeptical if I would like the tassel part and really be able to wear it with anything at first, for I felt it was very western looking, but with this gorgeous mustard H&M blouse (similar here) and a pair of jean shorts, it looked anything but western! It was festival, boho chic and looked so casual on my dinner date. I‘ve realized that regardless of my skepticism, this is a great piece for many different outfits! For instance, a denim on denim ensemble or a black dress with some gladiators, it’s can be rocked on more occasions than I imagined! A good piece of jewelry really changes the entire look of an outfit; I’ve learned this through my experience with Ettika altogether thus far.
Now, this is me being extremely picky, but after all this is a review and I’m being as honest as possible. The only slight disadvantage with some of Ettika‘s chokers is how hard they are to put on. The chain to hook into has very tiny loops and then bigger loops throughout, so you can clip into the bigger loops. But, it just so happens that no bigger loop fits the size of my neck. So I’ve had to find a way to fit the clip through a small hole, after much exhaustion. But, if I do clip it on the closest loop to fitting, it does rest lower on my neck but still has the choker look, as well as looks good.
Regardless, Ettika continues to amaze me.
I’ve yet again received another amazing piece from Ettika! The handmade designer jewelry company constantly leaves me thinking far too often about jewelry and how I will incorporate it into my daily outfits. This gold ‘Million Miles Away’ long chain necklace was created for a collection in corporation with Nordstrom, and was my best friend these past few weekends, as I wore it for days around the city, nights out with friends and for my birthday dinner paired with this gorgeous dress!
It’s beautiful in a simple way, which is why it looks great with nearly every outfit! I loved wearing it with a white halter body suit, ripped jeans and a pair of nude heels. It made it glam easily and had me feeling incredibly chic. It ends just a bit past my belly button, which is perfect for a long necklace. It has a nice bohemian flow and isn’t overwhelmingly glitzy, and therefore can be either dressed up or down. The only negative about this piece is the small gem in the center piece doesn’t seem to be set in all the way; for the price of the piece I find that this is something a bit critical. It’s not something you want to see after spending $75 – not that all pieces will come this way, but mine did. It is very unnoticeable though, and is just me being a tad picky, mind it is my job to give you the most honest review!
Overall, regardless of the minimal flaw, the piece is beautiful, effortless and timeless. Like I said, it can be worn with just about anything (as I say this I’m wearing it with a pair of black leggings and khaki tunic (; ) and it has become a critical piece to my wardrobe!
