Summer Night Series: The White Lace Dress

Dress: Bebe (similar) | Shoes: Steve Madden (similar)

My closet is packed to the brim with party wear that I haven’t really had the chance to party in (or blog, for that matter). I tend to fall in love with extravagant dresses that don’t quite fit into my life necessity list, but buy them anyway because they are simply gorgeous. Therefore, I’ve decided to start a Summer Nights Dresses Series, where I showcase every week a new dress I have that works great for a summers night out (a very dressed-up one, at that).

This one by far is one of my faves. It is stunning yet so simple, and can look very dressed up or down! The lace look on this piece is done so elegantly – where some lace pieces can look trashy. Not just that, but it is SO SOFT, I don’t need to wear a bra (well, I never do), and it shines. Something about it just catches all eyes. I got this as a gift to myself for my 21st birthday, as I thought it would be a big fun bash. Unfortunately, it was not, but I don’t regret having this gem in my closet! 2 year later and it’s as cute as ever! Successful shopping is not just finding items you are going to wear often – it’s finding pieces that you might not wear often, but are timeless statements!

Derby Style…

Dress | Shoes [similar 1 or 2]| Hat [similar] | Sunnies | Jacket | Choker

In a not so surprising surprising way,  my first week in California went somewhat like how you would daydream it would – but on not so grand of a scale, and that’s only if you consider going to a Kentucky Derby party in a mansion on a hill in Santa Barbara a not majorly intense scale in the grand scheme of all things California. For the little Rhody girl that I am, it was pretty grand. It only took me a few minutes to get rolling around the floor in my dress with a cute puppy, and then in the next hour tucking my dress into a pair of shorts to go trampoline-ing with the kids. Small town girl in a glam world at its finest. Another shocker to many – this gorgeous dress is from Forever 21. Beautiful, am I right? Everything seems to just be much more beautiful here in Santa Barbara. I’m pretty content with it, to say the least. I’ve managed to wear this Ettika choker with just about every outfit. I can glam it up, for instance with this dress or wear it with a beachy look. the possibilities are endless!

p.s. – It’s official, my hair is out of control. I’ve just come to embrace it!

Emjoi Epi Slim Beauty Tool Review

Hi everyone!

It’s a proven fact – I’m all about trying out new beauty products, especially those concerning hair removal. That may be too much of the truth, but I’m Italian and Syrian… what else can I say? Recently I received this Emjoi Epi Slim hair removal tool from Lipton to review. It’s almost like an electric razor, but instead has a ton of tiny little tweezers that pull your hair out from the roots so that it doesn’t grow back for weeks. Sounds great, right? I liked the sound of it too – so I gave it a shot.

Epi Slim+ e18 ($34.95) for sensitive area epilation is a great buy for Spring so you can get summer ready with quick and easy hair removal. That has to be one of the most annoying things about summer – the constant need to shave. For me, I know there’s nothing more frustrating. I fully take advantage of the fact that my legs are always covered in the Winter – bye bye razors – but now that I have this Epi Slim tool, I will simply need to shave once and not worry at all for a weeks. Imagine not having to shave your legs every other day in the summer? Sounds pretty convenient to me!

It’s light, runs on batteries, is actually a pretty cute looking tool (sounds weird, I know, but it really is… or light blue is just my favorite color) and is incredibly quick and easy to use. You simply turn it on and go. Boom. And this product can be used on your legs, armpits, face and bikini line… Magic. Simply convenient magic.

But there is one down fall for me when it comes to this product… It has been made clear to me before hand that all tools like this tend to hurt, so I wasn’t surprised when I used this one and it did too.

I tested 3 of the 4 areas. Can you guess which one I didn’t try?

My bikini line. I tried my leg first. It pinched a tiny bit – it wasn’t anything too dramatic. I could handle doing this to my legs every few weeks to prevent the constant need to shave. But, I have a pretty medium pain tolerance; I wouldn’t say I’m tolerant, but I’m not too sensitive.

Then I gave it a go on my arm pits. Disclaimer: I didn’t shave for a few days so that I could try this out the right way. Obviously you can’t properly tweeze hair that’s too short because the tweezers need something long enough to grab ahold of. This, unlike my legs, hurt. It was scary to do in the first place, and I think the fear of it all made it worse for me, but this isn’t something I would do again. If you have a pretty good pain tolerance, then this may be do-able for you, especially since your armpits are a small area that can be done quickly.

After that I tried it on my face – my lip, to be exact. Surprisingly enough, this was do-able. Yet again, scary at first, but do-able. My skin was pretty pink after but I didn’t get any kind of post-rash and didn’t feel the intensity of the pinching that I had on my armpits. It was pretty satisfying.

Overall, I’m pretty excited to have a product that I can rely on to save me from the constant razor purchasing and shaving. I won’t need to worry this summer about shaving, or the embarrassing moment when I realize I forgot too – because I now have a product that allows me to forget and relax for a few weeks at a time and just embrace bare skin and sun! Thanks Emjoi!

Fisherman’s Tale…

Hat: Aegean   | Jacket: Zara (similar here)| Scarf: H&M (similar) | Jeans: Tommy (similar)| Shoes: Aldo | Lipstick: Kylie Lipkit in Merry

If a hat isn’t one of the best accessories out there, then I’m not sure what fashion is. This Aegean Fisherman’s cap is just beautiful – structured, made of wool and lined with red silk; a braided design along the front. It pairs well with everything and is simply stunning.  It’s my favorite winter accessory, along with this oversized scarf from H&M. I even use it as a blanket when I’m beyond cold! In today’s 21 degree weather I was quite comfortable with just the scarf and this wool Zara jacket. I love an all grey and black look for winter. These Aldo booties have a laced up back and are amazingly comfortable. My winter style guide: effortless, simple, go-to’s that are a daily trend.

Kim K Just Broke Her Social Media Silence in the Sweetest Way

New year, New Kim?

As we troll into 2017, Kim K is entering it with grace and value. Since the October when Kim was held at gun point and robbed in her hotel while staying in Paris, Kim has gone M.I.A. from all socials and public appearance’s. Not too long ago the glamazon was strutting through airports just for the paparazzi, but after the biggest scare of her life, Kim needed time to get back down to reality and re-evaluate her fame. Although we heard from Kim for the first time on her sisters Snapchat’s at their family Christmas Eve party this December, it isn’t until this afternoon that she has posted to her socials for the first time since October. She posted one picture with one simple message… “Family.”

She not only posted it to Twitter.

But shared it to her Instagram as well…

Is this a deeper message to us all?

We can only take one answer to that, and it’s yes. It’s easy to get caught up in the buzz of social media and the material desires it creates – Kim gives us some of the greatest style envy. Not only her, but her sisters are leading the millennial revolution in style (you can’t say you don’t want a Kylie lip kit… if you do, you’re lying). With that being said, it’s easy to see someone from the surface, and Kim’s is usually covered with a whole lot of diamonds and silk, but what we can take from this and her recent (lack of) social media actions and public outings is that she is more than that, and we need to stop forgetting it. It’s not about her beauty or effortless style but simply that she is human, with a family, and what’s more important and special than that? At the end of the day, she needs to put that first.

So what do we expect next? For our style sanity, we can only hope for Kim to return to her daily social media presence and public life, but for the sake of safety and normality, we can only wish for the best for her – and maybe she’s hoping to change the social stigma around her this 2017 – one that’s more real. Either way, go get ’em Kimmy. We missed you.

Shop x The Style Studies

Hi all!

Some big, new things going on starting this week… I’ve opened an Etsy Shop! After working with a few jewelry companies promoting chokers and making some handmade chokers for my friends and I, I decided to start with selling some. I’ve been wanting to create my own shop for awhile to put my own clothing designs out there, but I am far too bad of a sewer to do that, so I thought why not sell my handmade chokers? Little business endeavors have become quite my thing (; So I took to the internet and created The Style Studies Chokers. As my shop grows I’ll be selling vintage finds and even some of my own designs (I promise, with the help of a handy seamstress… like I said, you don’t want my sewing!) so I can really start pushing out there my creative side and sharing with all of you my genuine, personalized style. We all have to start somewhere, and there’s no time like the present. With a sprinkle (or heap full) of hard work and dedication, anything is possible.

Here are a few of my chokers… (you can see the full site in the “SHOP” tab at the top of my site, or here)

Therefore, to get a quick and affordable update for your closet for this current Fall and upcoming winter, or even some Thanksgiving ootd ideas, here’s a list of some amazing finds under fifty!

Dark, neutral colors from Zara.

Lots of satins, velvets, and rosegold colored pieces from MissyEmpire.

Top: Vintage (similar here)

Jeans: Tommy Hilfiger (similar here)

Shoes: Forever 21 (similar here)

This is by far my favorite top – ever. While visiting my grandma this summer I decided to do some snooping through her closet and took it into my own hands to inherit a few things (; In my suitcase back to DC I had managed to bring this top and a plain white one just like it, as well as a curtain (I know, sounds weird, right? Lets save that for a different post). My grandmother is a bigger woman, which explains the size, but I adore oversized clothes – adore being the understatement of the year. There’s nothing like a classic red lip and a polka dot top – so vintage chic! I’ve never really owned anything vintage in my life so I cherished this top over summer, wearing it far too often. Surprisingly, it matched everything, or I was just wearing it with everything – either way, in the words of my best friend, it was tres chic.  Unfortunately for me (but luckily just at the turn of fall (; ) my grandma called in a rage saying it was her favorite top and she needed it shipped back to her before her doctors appointment so she could look cute for her hunk of a doctor. So, bye-bye to my polka-dotted love. Until next summer!
